Caffè Adriano: contemporary and antique living together in one place
Mantua, Italy
The historic Caffè Adriano in Mantua underwent a restyling in 2021.
Based on a design by architect Nicola Balboni, the heavy cherry wood shaped counter in a classical style that occupied a large part of the café was replaced by a more linear counter covered with large slabs of ceramic stoneware and a tempered glass counter, giving a lighter and more modern touch to the environment.
The clean and sober design of the furnishings blends in perfectly with the ornate coffered wooden ceiling that has always characterised the restaurant with its historical imprint.
Other details of times gone by surface in the restaurant, such as some stone columns, exposed wooden beams and the vaulted ceilings of the inner room furnished with hpl tables and chairs.
The bulky back counter furniture has also been replaced by a lighter solution with painted metal shelving.
The interior restyling project succeeded in giving a new lightness and brightness to the room and further enhancing the important ceiling of great historical value.
